PERSPECTIVE. Happiness is not my job
I wrote a Tweet this morning (I wouldn’t lie to you):
One of my followers responded:
“The business I am in”? I’m glad you asked.
In my Web2 life, I’m a hospitality entrepreneur. I own and operate nine restaurants for The Halal Guys franchise. I also consult for emerging restaurant concepts that aspire to franchise.
Don’t get me wrong. I want the staff I work with, the shareholders who took a chance on me, and the customers who support us - to be delighted.
I want their interactions with my companies to leave them better than they were before they entered my sphere of influence.
But this is what I responded with:

Yes - you should do your absolute best job, and do it with kindness.
There’s a pride of work that comes from doing that.
And you win when you create an environment where it’s easier for people to be happy.
But it’s not your job to make them happy.
There are people who have decided to be unhappy with you, and never accept you. No matter what you do.
And it’s not your fault. It could stem from conditioning, biases, false rumors, the status quo (because your work could change them, and people fear change)…whatever.
You’ll never win.
Jesus was the perfect model person..and even he couldn’t please everyone. In fact, he got killed by his haters (you know, the ones he came to serve).
The phrase “you can’t please everyone” is tired and worn and kinda ineffective.
I recommend you shock yourself out of the cliche cruise control. Maybe:
There are people you will never, ever - despite your best efforts - make happy. You need to be okay with that, so you can seek out and fully serve those who will appreciate and relate to you.
When you truly detach yourself from the outcome…a 100-ton weight gets lifted off of you.
You are free to do your best work. Your most honest work.
Trying to please as many people as possible…is impossible; and a sure way to lose your joy.
SWSWSW. Some will, some won’t, so what.
Kevin Kelly argues that you just need 1,000 true fans (one of my favorite articles of all time, by the way).
You just need one partner to love, romantically.
Each of my restaurants generate on average $1.5 million in sales. At an average ticket price of $15, and an average customer eats twice a month at my store…I just need 4,167 customers.
That’s .0000005953 of the world population. I can work with that.
This abundance mindset that shifts the power back to you. You suddenly become okay with “the one that got away”, instead of dropping the opportunities you have in possession, to chase them.
You become aware that there are enough people to serve and will be delighted by what you do.
And that should make you happy.
NFTs. A trading strategy that works
We interrupt our regularly-scheduled programming to share something I hope will be a powerful tool in your NFT trading endeavors.
In the last 12 months, I’ve lost - errr, invested - a ton of money into NFTs.
I’ve won, lost, learned, and gotten a lot better at profitable buys and exits.
It’s a culmination of taking notes, following smart people, trading alongside friends who also want to get better, effing up and finding out, and understanding myself more.
A few enthusiast friends and I have decided to form a trading group - where we put in equal amounts of Ethereum - and plan to propose, vote, and invest in NFTs we believe have high short-term growth potential.
I’ve put together a draft of how we will be making decisions - using all of the lessons that have helped me avoid bad buys and enter winning trades.
I’m calling it the TaDAO Trading Thesis.
And the cost? ZERO. It’s free.
My only asks:
Let me know what you think of the strategy;
Share any stories, if you do use it;
Suggest any other strategies to make our plays better; and
Share this with other people who could use the strategy.
Deal?
The final product will be given to all of my subscribers (tell your friends to sign up!) at no charge.
But enjoy the draft for now! Click here.
All of this is for entertainment/informational purposes only, okay? And all of these decisions were unique to me.
BUT if you’re open to it, let me know what NFTs you’ve gotten into, sold, and are looking at!

I produce written content (ebooks, newsletters, fundraising proposals, sales pitches, etc.) for companies and individuals, and have sold over 1,000 investments and $25 million in startup fundraising from the written word. If there’s interest in this arena, reply and let’s talk it out. Even if we don’t work together, the creative process is free for you and fun for me, anyway!
